On the weekend of June 9th and 10th 2012 Herts Steam Engine Preservation Society will be again holding their annual steam rally at Oaklands College (Smallford campus) on the edge of St. Albans. The annual rally is now a well established event in the summer calendar of outside events, and will follow on from the success of last year's event on the new site. Over 30 full size steam engines will be presented in all their glory, in addition to old farm tractors, classic cars and lorries plus other bygones from our rich industrial and agricultural heritage.

Preserved commercial vehicles have a very strong presence at the rally with the annual gathering of ERF's and the Foden Society also attending. The arena provides a great way to see the Vintage Tractors, Classic Cars, Motorcycles Steam Engines, Heavy Horses and Commercial. There will be around 12 vintage Fairground, Street, Dance and hand turned organs playing at various locations around Hitchin Town Centre. The event will take place between 10:00 and 16:00 and admission is free. There is ample car parking in Hitchin (including disabled parking). Hitchin is also served by good rail and bus services. Peter Craig is opening his garden to the public tomorrow (1st July) in Stevenage, so you may wish to make a weekend of it!

On Sunday 1st July this year our garden at home will again be open to the public in aid of the Red Cross and Holy Trinity Church (which is adjacent to our house). This year it is not just our garden, but around 12 gardens that will take part in the event, so the admission charge of £5.00 is a bit higher than last year. The gardens are open from 1300hrs until 1700hrs. Strictly no dogs except guide dogs. It is just 12 minutes walk from Stevenage Railway station. The building containing my three dance organs (The 84 key Mortier 'Venus di Milo' and 72 key and 92 key Gebr Decap pipe organs) will be open to visitors and the organs will be in play throughout the event. My 36 key Verbeeck should also be playing somewhere in the garden. As you may know, David Dingwall is arranging an organ event in nearby Hitchin the previous day, so people might wish to make a weekend of it and attend both events.

May I extend a warm welcome from the organising committee to all who visit this website. Fleetwood Festival of Transport which is unofficially, and traditionally, known as 'Tram Sunday' will take place this year on 15th July, 10am- 4pm. The event extends throughout most of the town of Fleetwood with its unique street tramway now upgraded to accommodate the new generation of trams which will be serving Fleetwood from April onwards. Most of the community, its residents, businesses, charities, an army of volunteers and vehicle enthusiasts work together to create something of interest for the whole family all in one huge, free event. This year we are hosting the Leyland to Fleetwood road run for the second time and this in itself brings many historic commercial vehicles, buses and cars to complement our own regular exhibitors. Well over 200 vehicles are expected ranging from steam vehicles almost a century old to modern day classics. Many visitors will be able to say, 'my Dad had a car like that', or 'I used to go to school on a bus like that'.

The 26th Annual Fairground Organ Enthusiasts Day will take place at the Mechanical Music Museum, Charity Trust No 801863, Blacksmith Road Cotton Stowmarket IP14 4QN on Sunday 7th October 2012, with gates open at 10.00am. Following the format established in the 1970s by the Cotton Exhibition, this is the largest annual gathering of mechanical organs in East Anglia. In addition to the Museum's own collection of mechanical, street and cafe organs which will be demonstrated during the day, there will be twenty visiting organs drawn from across a wide geographical area. The visiting organs will be arranged both inside and outside the Museum building and will be heard playing throughout the day. The organs vary from small hand turned table-top instruments to large trailer and lorry-mounted street organs. A vintage traction engine will be in steam on the Museum's forecourt. There will be a Sales Stall in aid of Museum funds and a dealer in mechanical music- related items will also be in attendance. Light refreshments will be available. Steam Trains and Fair Organs Oktoberfest

A festival of vintage German fairgound organs to be held in the grounds of the Mizens Miniature Steam Railway,(which will be in operation throughout the day). Visiting organs are still being finalised, so watch this space! Craft stalls, a vintage children's fun fair, steam train rides, refreshments etc. Ample free parking.12 noon to 5pm.
