Dave any chance of making links to other websites open in a new window instead of navigating from FOPS. Only it’s a pain to return to a particular thread after clicking on a link within a thread on FOPS forum and it will only get worse has the forum grows.

Also is it possible to imbed video from lets say YouTube not just a link.

Please see my videos on YouTube

would it be acceptable for me to post some of them on FOPS, only it would be a lot of work for me to edit them.

reason: wrong link

Hi Phil.

I will look into the possibility of links opening in a new browser tab. There are no settings in the Admin Control Panel (ACP) to do it, so I will have to modify the code to include a "Target=" extension on hyperlinks.

The same goes for embedding videos from external sites, I don't think that there are any settings in the ACP, so I will have to look at the raw coding to see if that can be done.

There is another issue with embedding videos and that is the video will begin downloading whenever a forum page is opened and depending on the speed of Internet connection, may slow down the loading of the forum page.

Regarding posting your videos on here, I assume you mean placing a link to the YouTube video, then please do so. If you mean uploading the video to FOPS then there isn't much storage space in the FOPS Webhosting and I have restricted the maximum size of files to regulate it.

Hi Phil.

I have modified the software to open a link in a new window/tab.

You may have to click on Edit and then Submit on existing posts to make the links work correctly.

Thanks Dave, the new window/tab seems to be working fine.

You assume right, I do mean placing a link to the YouTube video but not uploading any videos to FOPS, What I was trying to ask for is for YouTube videos to be played within the FOPS forum.

On the forums I run it allows one to watch a video without leaving the forum, In other words it plays within the forum thread just like it was a part of the forum but without slowing the forum down or imbedding the video within the forum.

This is how the string looks when I want a video to look as its part of the forum and play within the forum without any pop ups or opening a new window/tab.

Code:
[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CPxaEfFhGI[/tube]

This link is a bit cheeky as it’s a link to an organ forum like this one, but it will explain what I’m trying to convey.
http://aobg.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~252.asp
Please feel free to remove the link once viewed.

I do completely understand the restrictions of the software but as the forum is powered by phpBB it should be possible to do.

It will make the forum look more united and appear fuller and simpler to navigate not counting the overall aesthetics.

Dave please don’t think I’m nit picking or being derogative of all your hard work it’s just that I would like to see the FOP’S forum thrive again.

Yours Phil Radford.

Hi Phil.

I will have a look at that video viewing method. I have seen it done on other sites that way and it is a good idea, so I will work on that.

You are not nit picking at all, I am open to any ideas to improve the whole forum experience!

Hi Phil.

I have added a YouTube embedding code to the editor (there is a new button saying "youtube"), so give it a go and see what happens. I have tested it and it seems to work ok.

You will have to modify existing posts.

Here is your video:
