Does anyone know how I would go about making or converting (MP3 or otherwise) into MIDI format so it will play on my 49 keyless McCarthy fair organ?

I've got an Okyweb player with loads of pre-loaded tunes when I had the conversion but just wondered if there is anyway I could add more tunes myself?

Thanks for your help. :wink2:

Sadly, There appears no practical way to convert audio files into MIDI files. There have been several brave attempts in shareware to do this, and I have tried a few, but none are any good I have found.

Simple one-note-at-a-time tunes, such as those played on a flute can usually be converted this way to MIDI. But the system fails when multiple-note chords are sounded, particularly complex chords. Present software systems have problems in unscrambling complex music and the results are chaotic.

If anyone has had success with this problem, I would be delighted to hear from them.

Best organic wishes for the New Year everyone!

You could try Googling "MP3 files to MIDI" and see what people are claiming for their software.
If you try http://www.mp3towav.org/mp3-to-midi.asp you will see there are free trial downloads on offer.
If you have loads of time and patience it's worth a try.

Best of luck

Hi Lady Wulfrun and Bob!

It should be easy to add extra songs, but unfortunately they will have to be MIDI arrangements for the 49 McCarthy scale.

MIDI can be converted from other organ scales, but only if there are a sufficient number of matching notes. Also, registration is a problem if the other scale has different registers.

Information on the OkyWeb player can be found at: http://www.okyweb.com.au/

Hi Joe. welcome to the new FOPS Forum.
Like Bob I have tried almost all the programmes that claim to be able to convert mp3 to midi, without once resulting in a playable midi file for the Organ.
I too would welcome information from anyone who has found a programme that will do the job.
Midi Files arranged to suit your scale are now obtainable from many arrangers at a modest cost.
Why not post your scale on here, maybe someone will then send you a sample midi file.
Regards
George. :grinder:

Thanks very much Bob, Dave and George!

I've fed everyone's replies to Joe. He wanted me to pass on a big hello, wishing you all a happy new year and to thank everyone for their help. He said to tell you all that I'm his promotions manager also called Joe! (You should all know Joe himself isn't too much of a technical wizard!! Although he does keeps asking lots of questions about the World Wide Web!!)

I'm quite surprised it's so difficult to make MIDI arrangements - wouldn't it be great if you could just convert them from MP3?

Joe's organ is a 49 keyless McCarthy fair organ.

Could anyone suggest any arrangers that can provide MIDI files for his organ. If anyone does have any samples that would be great!?

Thanks again.
