Hi Folks.
It is with sadness I have to inform you our friend George Houghton died last week. He had a fall outside his house and broke his hip (approximately the 23rd/24th June). Fortunately he was seen by someone who phoned for an ambulance and he was taken to Whiston Hospital (Knowsley, Merseyside) for a hip repair. The operation was successful and he returned home briefly on Wednesday 28th June, but later in the day he contracted pneumonia and was returned to hospital where he died late on the Thursday night/early Friday morning (29th/30th June). He would have been 92 on the 21st July.
The funeral is to be held on Friday 14th July at 10am, St John’s Church, Greenway Road (off Fairfield Road), Widnes WA8 6HA. The church is in a side road next to Victoria Park where, of course, since 2000, George organised the Widnes Rally with Halton Council until handing control of the event over to the Council a couple of years ago.
Despite being an ‘ambassador’ of fairground organs, George specifically requested there were to be no organs playing at the funeral! Maybe we could arrange something at this years Widnes Rally in his memory?
Family flowers only, any donations to Ward 3b, Whiston Hospital.
