I have recently received my Driving Licence renewal form from DVLA.

Due to my being over 70 years of age I am required by law to renew every 3 years.
This time the authorities have introduced another bit of legislation which I and others I have spoken to were unaware of and which may cause inconvenience to older drivers of Organ vehicles.
Up until now I have held a driving licence allowing me to drive groups A,B,BE,B1,C1,C1E,D1,D1E.as I understand it the new regulations only allow me to drive vehicles in groupA,B,BE. which is the normal car groups.
I can no longer drive a Mini bus up to 16 seats unpaying passengers or the larger type van that a lot of organs are carried in, unless I obtain a medical certificate.
I used to have to get a medical certificate to drive the Large Mercedes Van that housed Lady Margaret but now they appear to have tightened the regulations even more making it more difficult to pursue our hobby.
Regards.
George.

You will also find that you cannot tow a trailer over 750kg (well that’s my understanding and conversations with DVLA.) there’s a lot of people will disagree with what I just posted above, but according to DVLA it will always come down to the gross weight and as I understand it, over 70’s will be subjected to most of the new licence rules like max gross weight not exceeding 4250kg. So that’s 3500kg for the vehicle and 750kg for trailers.

Just one thing to remember if you’re a motorcyclist, unless you point out you still ride motorcycles you will loose the entitlement. So you must point out when filling out your license renewal that you intend to carry on biking. It’s very hard to have it corrected; DVLA will just inform you that you need to take a motorcycle test.
