I have to say that it is probably the most impressive "synthetic Fair Organ" sound I have ever heard and sounds rather like a Ruth Fairorgan...although on that point, I am sure the expert ears out there may disagree!

just listened to your hauptwerk midi files and must say they are fantastic realistic organ sounds. i have experimented with Miditzer but have never got the result that you have. Please tell us more.

Hi Dave and George,

Hauptwerk can load several sample-sets, mainly of historic church organs,
but also theatre organs. The one I used for this recordings is in fact a
sampled theatre organ created by http://www.paramountorganworks.com/
I used their 3/20 model. There is also a free available 3/10, witch works also under the free version of Hauptwerk but it has no trumpet wich is essential for these (I believe) Gustav Bruder arrangements.

I wil load my Hauptwerk system as the trial version and see what I can make of the free 3/10 Wurlitzer and use a clarinet for the trumpet..

Only the advanced edition of Hauptwerk has voicing included but I might
find a way to make it sound like a fair organ anyway.

If i'm ready I wil post a new piece and if You like it I wil send the combination file and all what important to know to anyone who is
interested.

Unfortunately at the moment I am having a problem with my internet download speed, I upgraded a few weeks ago and ever since my download speed is about equal to the old dial-up connection days and it would take hours to download the Hauptwerk files. BT is supposed to be rectifying the trouble but that can take weeks.
In the meantime I have asked Dave our Webmaster/Forum admin. who has a faster download speed to see what he can come up with.
I would like to have Hauptwerk on my computer and I am seriously considering buying the full version so I will be adding up the costs with a view to a purchase in the near future, please keep in touch and continue to share your excellent choice of music with us.

Hi again Roland.
I have now managed to install the Hauptwwerk file,
But I am unsure if I need Cakewalk or a similar sequencer to play midi files into Hauptwerk or if Hauptwerk will playthem direct.
Also does the sound font program automatically load into Hauptwerk.
Sorry to be a thickie but I am keen to try the program.

Hi George,

If you are really interested in buying it, wait for Hauptwerk4, it will have
midi played/recorder build in and will be much easier to work with in general.
With Hauptwerk3 you need a midi program like CakeWalk, there are also free
programs available or very cheap ones like Reaper (which i use).
I did not find time yet to try to make a fair organ sound out of the 3/10, but
I will soon and let You know.

When loading Hauptwerk, it opens the standard installed organ sample-set
a small English church organ. Other organs have to be installed first, this is very easy, go to the file menu and choice instal organ, open the RAR file that you downloaded (the organ), and hauptwerk will instal it (some organs are so big, they have more RAR files, but not the paramount) after a while You will see a screen with several options, leave them like they are and choice Ok.
Now Hauptwerk will load the organ (the first time it will take some more time to do so, but this is only once). Then you have to setup the midi-in channels,
this can be done in the general settings menu, choice midi input paths and choice the one you want to use. (i guess this is the same as you did with the miditzer software).

I was wondering.. My father works in a organmuseum in Holland where they
have nice instruments, i was thinking it may be interesting to record a view of them (or one for a start), and make it available for Hauptwerk as a sample-set.. It's a hell of a job, but it can be very interesting for arranging music for the real organs.. They have a beautiful Gavioli fair organ but also Ruth (model 39), Bruder (Gebruder and Wilhelm) and much more.. What do You think?

Dave is coming over sometime next week to help me set Hauptwerk up and give it a try on my computer so I will keep you posted on the progress.
Your Idea of collecting sound samples from the Museum organs is great but will need lots of time and patience on your part as you say it is a hell of a task. if it is possible it would certainly be useful for users of Hauptwerk who want to create a real fairorgan sound and I am sure there are many who would welcome it.
In the meantime I would be interested to know if there are any suitable sound fonts that can be used in Miditzer to create a fairorgan sound. I find the free download version of Miditzer very user friendly you can load a midi file into it and play it without a sequencer and also record what you are playing . It would be great if it was possible to create the sound of a fairorgan.For anyone interested here is the link to the free download.

I'm afraid I can't help You with the Miditzer since I use a Mac and it's only
available for Windows PC.. Hauptwerk is for both PC and Mac systems.

Today I have some time to try to make a Fair organ sound out of the 3/10..
If it's ready, I will record something post it later today in this topic...

Hmm.. without trumpet it's simply impossible to have the Fair organ sound..

I think some of us music arrangers will find this very useful. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

The theatre organ samples work really well as a German organ simulator. I did find the trombone a bit weak though & maybe it could go down in pitch? Maybe it starts at a different note?

Ah well - never mind I will plod on with the free download version for the time being and maybe purchase version 4 when it is released to get the fairorgan sound fonts.
Glad to know Rob finds it usefull when arranging music.
How about a sample Rob?
