Just as a matter of interest, how is your weather today?

Some of our 18" to 2ft of snow (depending on where it was measured) has thawed, but by 1700 the local temperature was down to -7C, and falling!

We topped up the bird feeders, inc fat balls earlier....

I do not know about you, but I've had enough (snow) already. (grump...)

Today we have had freezing fog followed by a thaw and then a return of the freezing fog.
In this part of the North West we have been pretty lucky and have not had much snow, but the frost has been a bit of a bind with untreated roads and pavements treacherous underfoot.
Before the powers that be decided on the Boundary changes some years ago each small local authority was responsible for its own gritting and we used to get the local roads and pavements gritted. Now we rarely see a gritter except on the main roads.Side roads and pavements are just not included in the gritting budget anymore.
One thing that did annoy me today was to see a young couple with a 2010 registration 4 x4 car loading grit into the back of the car from a grit bin that is placed at a particularly dangerous spot so that it can be spread on the road surface when needed. On my return journey the bin was on its side empty.
I hope no one gets hurt at that spot due to their selfishness,

Now that is really selfish behaviour.

If you have the reg'n no. (car make/model/colour) and descriptions try reporting to the council (in part, so they can refill the bin!) and police (as what they were doing is theft!) followed by a letter(s) to local radio station and newspaper(s).

I live opposite a minor road junction, with a bad record for accidents. (luckily no-one has yet been killed) and we've had the same sort of thing happen. There is just a heap of grit (limited salt supplies) this year and no bin in any case.

Woke up today to find that the thaw has set in. :wink2:

Sunny, "mild" if dampish air, and a lot of the snow has disappeared. Apart from one or two of the large piles created during clearance ops.......

I wonder if the plumbers will be busy..........

The above shot is from earlier in 2010, but the point still applies.
(luckily that gantry no longer exists, as is got demolished by a HGV in the summer)

Well, most of the snow went a few days ago. There was a slight sprinkling yesterday, and driving on the ice this morning was "entertaining"!

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems even colder the last few days. It must be that the air is damp, because the temp reading was actually +2 during the day. (and there has been a little breeze blowing)

I went outside just before logging on, and it was down to -4 again.
Brrrrr......

Hi StoneRoad.

Happy new year to you :celebrate

We have had a thaw during the last week or so and all the snow and ice had melted, but it has just started snowing.

So it looks like it might be a case of "here we go again"!

It only went down to zero degrees (C) last night.

It is 10.45 am here and we now have about 1inch of snow ,it is still snowing but the forecast is for rain later.
Dont know what the outside temperature is just now but it certainly is not warm.
All the plumbers are busy and a lot of people who have condensing boilers in their Central heating systems have experienced a new hazard due to the extreme cold weather.
The condensate drain pipe from the Boiler which the regulations say has got to be able to drain outside the building has in many instances frozen solid resulting in burst pipes and leaks which are only discovered when it thaws. :swear2: :cry2:

Happy new year to everyone.

George.

happy new year.....to all of you....

The weather has been very cold again today, and to cap it off nicely;
the car was covered in frosting / snow when I got out of the workshop at the end of the usual working day.....so that's nice driving for tomorrow.

It has been milder the last few days, as in there has only been a light coating of frosting on cars, trees and the local sheep!

I thought I saw some snowdrops in the darden this morning.
And I have a reliable report as to a few lambs outside in a field near Durham at the weekend.

So here's hoping.....

Went to the Local Rugby match last night and shivered all though the game even though I had several layers of supposedly warm clothes on. Today is a bit better after we had rain during the night, the sun is now shining and the temerature has risen.
The Bluetits are popping in and out of the Bird box so along with the emergence of the Snowdrops it must be a sign of Spring on the way, the sooner the better for me,I have had enough of this harsh winter. :whiteflag:

Mixed today.....

cold start, then light breezes, with bright and warm sunny intervals.

then it went very wet and very windy (20knot gusts!)
not nice to drive home in, as it was going dark....

So, we've had a couple of days/nights of gales, and for the last three days it hasn't stopped raining. Not windy at the moment.

The current rain is just running straight across the top of the ground in the field opposite. The sheep look as if they are soaked!

This is worse than that the snow - it is so very dull under thick clouds.

Much better, for the last few days it has felt quite mild, at least during the day!

The snowdrops are making a good show...
.....and I've seen some lambs quite close to home. Only a few days old...

here's hoping!

On the way home last night, it started with sleet, and by the time we woke up this morning we had about 2" of wet, soggy snow.
During the day it has been cold and overcast.
However, the snow has melted. I'll bet the few local lambs will be pleased about that!
